Falmouth Civic Society AGM – CANCELLED
We are sorry to have to cancel our AGM. This is, of course, due to the fast-moving situation concerning the Covid-19 virus and government guidance about social distancing and also the imminent imposition of self-isolation for the over 70s. Possible rules may also occur on public gatherings and closures. The AGM papers that would have been presented at the meeting will be circulated by email nearer the time for your information. Normally elections for the Chairman and Committee occur at the meeting, but in the circumstances all currently in post will continue to serve during the virus disruption and until the next AGM.
Our Social programme is also likely to be seriously disrupted. In addition to the AGM, the visit to the Geothermal Project on April 20th is to be cancelled. All the other social programme visits and talks will be suspended and reviewed on a month by month basis, and we will keep you informed and up to date by email.
This is all a great disappointment. So much work has gone on to make these arrangements, and keep the Society going, and my thanks got to all our committee for the splendid work that they do. We hope you will stick with us over this difficult time*, and above all, keep safe. Let us hope it will not be too long before we are back to normal!
Prof Mike Jenks, Chairman (17 March 2020)
* Please note: if you normally pay by cash at the AGM for your membership subscription, could you: either, send a cheque made payable to Falmouth Civic Society, c/o The Treasurer, 3a Castle Close, Falmouth TR11 4PE; or, contact the Treasurer by email about setting up a standing order at jaygidman5@gmail.com

Mike Johnson gave a very successful talk about Vice-Admiral Robert FitzRoy FRS who was an English officer of the Royal Navy and a scientist. He achieved lasting fame as the captain of HMS Beagle during Charles Darwin's famous voyage, FitzRoy's second expedition to Tierra del Fuego and the Southern Cone. We are aiming to restore the Fitzroy barometer outside the Old Customs House.
